Survival guide for the desert Lesson 1

What features does this writing have? Make a list in your word
document. Try to think of AT LEAST 5.

Water
Drink a small amount of water every hour.
Ø If you find a dry streambed with just a small area of wet earth, dig underneath to find water.
ØAlso, to obtain water, seal a plastic bag over a green plant. As the plant transpires the water
vapour will collect inside the bag.
Be careful, survival experts say that you can only live for three days without water.
Desert Shelter
Protect yourself from the sun during the day, but keep warm at night.
ØTo make a shelter, put a parachute or tarp over some posts, or use the vehicle as your anchor.

Ø If you can find a cave or take advantage of rocks for shade, part of the shelter has been built for
you. As always with caves, if they’re good for you they’re good for other animals too, so check
carefully for other visitors.
